Message from the Superintendent

STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and it encompasses a vast array of subjects that fall into each of those terms - engineering, physics, astronomy, biochemistry, biomechanics, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, medicine, robotic… the list goes on and on. Occupations in STEM-related careers are some of the fastest growing and best paid of the 21st century, and they often have the greatest potential for job growth.

Despite the United States’ historical edge in STEM industries, our nation has been experiencing a decline in the output of STEM talent.  Relatively few American students pursue expertise in STEM fields, and there is a chronic shortage of teachers skilled in those subjects.

That’s why the Board of Education and the Leadership Team at Howell Township Public Schools has made STEM education a priority. Building a solid STEM foundation through the Maker Movement and a well-rounded curriculum is the best way to ensure that students are prepared for the future.  As you will see in this episode of Open Mic, our students and staff are embracing these learning opportunities in an extraordinary way!
