SEASON 2, EPISODE 3
MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Teaching facts and information is a perfectly fine thing for schools to do. Yet as the segments below illustrate, Howell principals have set loftier goals for their schools: the cultivation of environments that push students to Learn to Learn. Prepare to be amazed at the explorations occurring at Newbury, Greenville, and Land O’ Pines, where students’ curiosity and passion is paired with our teachers’ expert instruction to build exceptional academic skills.
Now, as they say in late-night commercials, “But wait, there’s more…” Not only are our students Learning to Learn, they are Learning to Be. The cultivation of a sense of citizenship, responsibility, and leadership takes place in all of our schools; it is very much on display in the segments from Taunton, Griebling, and Memorial.
As we celebrate the conclusion of the school year, it’s wonderful to know that the young people in our schools are not just being taught the facts, but are using their time to explore, together with teachers, how to thrive in our complex and interconnected world.
Wishing you a safe and restorative summer,
Joseph Isola, Superintendent

HOW TO SKIP THE SUMMER READING SLIDE
Research shows that summer can take a real toll on a student’s reading skills. Thankfully, our District’s engaging reading list and on-line book club can go a long way towards helping kids skip the summer reading slide.
